Who arranges the preceptor, and who can it be
Across AGACNP programs, you arrange the site and preceptor and the university and hospital approve them. The preceptor you need depends on the rotation: a certified AGACNP or ACNP, or a physician (MD or DO) in the matching acute role, an intensivist for the ICU, an emergency medicine physician for the ED, a specialty physician for a specialty service, or a hospitalist for inpatient medicine.
Every preceptor and site has to be approved, which generally means a CV, a signed affiliation agreement, and hospital credentialing. A willing clinician is not the same as an approved one. How many clinical hours does an AGACNP program require?
The 2022 NTF Standards for Quality NP Education, published by AACN, set a minimum of 750 direct patient care hours per NP population track. The older 500-hour figure is the certification-eligibility floor still used by ANCC (AGACNP-BC) and the AACN Certification Corporation (ACNPC-AG). So total AGACNP clinical hours typically run from about 500 in legacy or certification-minimum programs to 750 or more in current standards-compliant programs. Confirm your program's exact requirement with your school.
Why is an AGACNP preceptor so hard to find?
Securing acute-care and ICU clinical sites is among the hardest placements to obtain independently. Hospitals gatekeep inpatient students through credentialing, affiliation agreements, and limited preceptor availability, so acute-care rotations are far scarcer than primary-care ones. That inpatient search is exactly what we take off your plate.
Who can serve as an AGACNP preceptor?
Generally a certified AGACNP or ACNP (acute care nurse practitioner), or a physician (MD or DO) in a matching acute role such as an intensivist, hospitalist, emergency medicine physician, or inpatient specialist, practicing in the acute or inpatient setting that matches your rotation. Some programs also accept physician assistants in acute-care settings. Specific preceptor rules are set by each program and its accreditor and state board.
What rotations and populations must AGACNP clinical hours cover?
AGACNP is an adult-gerontology acute-care role, so your hours span acutely and critically ill patients across ICU or critical care, step-down or progressive care, the emergency department, inpatient specialty services such as cardiology, pulmonary, and hospitalist medicine, plus procedures and acute-care skills. The population runs from young adults through adults to older adults, including the frail elderly, with adolescents only where a program defines them in scope. AGACNPs do not care for children.
Can any AGACNP hours be done by telehealth?
It depends entirely on your program and your state's rules, not on us. AGACNP is fundamentally an inpatient, hands-on role, so the great majority of hours are in-person acute-care experience. Whether any remote hours count, and in what proportion, is the university's and the state's decision. We confirm what is allowed with your program before treating any remote hours as part of a plan.
Do you work with my university's AGACNP program?
Yes. We are a program-focused service, not a school service, so we place AGACNP students from any university. We source preceptors and acute-care sites that meet your program's requirements and its affiliation-agreement and credentialing process, whatever school you attend.
What does your placement service cost, and when do I pay?
We price per placement, sized to your rotation and area, and you pay only once your preceptor and approved site are confirmed. The fee covers our sourcing, vetting, and credentialing-prep work, and is never a payment to the preceptor. Acute-care placement is a harder search, and we give you a clear figure before you commit.
