AGACNP preceptor placement, state by state
Your acute-care clinical hours happen where you live, under your state's rules for nurse practitioners and inside your state's own hospital landscape. Pick your state to see which ICUs, step-down units, and inpatient services host AGACNP students there, how practice authority shapes supervision in critical care, and how we secure your high-acuity hours.
Tell us your school and city. It is free to ask, with no obligation.

Good to know
Do you place AGACNP students in every state?
Yes. We source acute-care preceptors and hospital sites in all 50 states, for students at any university. Each state page covers its practice-authority rules, its board of nursing, and the ICU, step-down, emergency, and hospitalist settings that actually host AGACNP rotations there.
Does my state's practice authority change what I need in a preceptor?
It changes the supervision arrangement more than the preceptor's qualifications. In full-practice states an experienced acute-care NP can precept with more independence; in reduced and restricted states a collaborating or supervising physician is folded in, which is common in critical care regardless. Either way your preceptor must be licensed in your state and practicing in acute care.
Which acute-care hours are hardest to place, and does that vary by state?
High-acuity ICU, procedures and advanced skills, and the adolescent end of the age range are usually the scarce pieces, and much of that capacity sits in academic medical centers and tertiary referral hospitals. How scarce depends on local hospital supply. See our ICU rotation and procedures and advanced skills guides.
